This is probably not the most common item that people see when they go shopping. But you can find bat houses in many stores and they are available on the internet to purchase. The thing that people struggle with is which one to buy.

They prefer natural wood because of the smell. The exterior can be painted black, but only with paint that has no odors. This helps with the heat absorption.  Any smells other than natural wood can keep them away so be careful here.

A key to bats coming back to a roost is having a rough interior or special wire on the interior that allows the bats to “cling” to the sides of the home. The entry point is always at the bottom because bats like to crawl into the house.

It’s important to do regular maintenance on their house. They do need minor wasp and joint inspection. Bats do not like wasps and hornets, and they will leave their roost until they are gone.
